NRA spokeswoman calls for Democrat to resign after calling NRA 'threat'

Mrs. Loesch told The Washington Examiner on Thursday that she was not speaking on behalf of the NRA at the time, and that she only did so on "the technical way the issue was being described" by others.

The Congresswoman was responding to Loesch's reply to a tweet August 9, which had asked the gun rights body's spokeswoman why the NRA had remained silent when an armed black man, Philando Castile, was shot dead in Minnesota by a policeman in 2016, despite following safety rules. Castile had a license to carry a firearm and it appears that the police officer who killed him may have done so in a panic upon being informed that Castile has a gun.

Loesch's response was the first substantive response from the gun-rights group regarding the shooting of Castile. The NRA was criticized when it stayed silent on the shooting, which had galvanized Black Lives Matter and anti-gun activists who termed the NRA racist over its silence.

"I am not a domestic threat!"

In an interview, Loesch called Rice's comments shocking, especially given her membership on the Homeland Security Committee.

"When can I expect to be arrested? If you find me that threatening Congresswoman, come and arrest me". "That's extremely troubling to Rep. Rice, as it should be to all law-abiding gun-owners and NRA members".

Conservatives and gun-rights supporters, however, accused Rice of labeling the NRA's entire membership a general threat to the country. In Congress, Rice has strongly spoken out in favor of gun control, including joining two dozen of her Democratic colleagues for a sit-in after the June 2016 Pulse Nightclub shooting.

However, Twitter users were not happy with Rice's statement.

Rice also panned the organization on her Facebook page, calling the NRA "lunatics actively encouraging violence against the free press".

Kathleen Rice of Nassau County took to Twitter Thursday night and told constituents that Mrs. Loesch's behavior is tantamount to the threat posed by a terrorist organization.
