There's a slim chance Mourinho will actually let Shaw leave after backing him to have a big career at Old Trafford, but if he sees an opportunity, he could try and quicken a deal for Rose, especially after a hard transfer window. The young Englishman was publicly called out more than any other member of the Red Devils, often times for his conditioning and commitment.

Luke Shaw's agent, Jonathan Barnett, has strongly insisted that his client will not depart Manchester United this summer, because they "love him".

With United rumoured to be interested in Spurs' Danny Rose, Shaw has been linked with a switch to White Hart Lane as a potential replacement.

There were even rumours of a possible swap deal between United and Tottenham, which would allow Rose and the former Southampton star to move in opposite directions.

Shaw is currently out with a knee injury as his teammates open the Premier League season now at home versus West Ham.

The Daily Record says Mourinho is desperate to sign a new left-back this summer. "Manchester United love him and Luke Shaw loves Manchester United", Barnett told IBTimes UK.

"Shaw is the first one to recover, Marcos will be the last one and Ashley in between".
