He told reporters after the meeting that he had sought the Centre's approval for the state legislation giving exemption for Tamil Nadu students. One of the longest running demands of Tamil Nadu politicians has finally come to an end with this decision of the Centre.

Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Shipping and Highways Pon.Radhakrishnan today appealed to political leaders in Tamil Nadu to keep away from the educational career of students. Due to the fact that the National Eligibility Cum Entrance test based on the pattern of CBSE, students who have topped the state Board exam were unable to crack the NEET examination. Around 4000 seats are available in governmental colleges, including those surrounded by private institutions. She emphasised that the Ordinance must specify that the exemption was sought to help rural students to get admission in government medical colleges, The Hindu reported. This made it hard for even high scorers in the State to stand tall with their CBSE counterparts.

The state health minister Vijayabaskar confirmed that the state government will submit a draft ordinance in this regard to the Union government on Monday.

Earlier this month, the Health Minister had met the Prime Minister along with Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai requested for an NEET-exemption.Tamil Nadu had ended the practice of entrance examinations and granted admission to medical courses on the basis of the marks obtained by students in class 12. Rural students face difficulty in getting admissions.
