Tottenham win first game of the season against Newcastle

Arsenal's French manager Arsene Wenger and Arsenal legend Martin Keown on the touchline during the Charity football match between Arsenal Legends and Milan Glorie at The Emirates

Jonjo Shelvey was slammed by Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer after receiving a straight red card for stamping on Tottenham star Dele Alli.

While Alli focused on the task at hand, the England midfielder was involved in the pivotal incident of the match when his ankle was stood on by Jonjo Shelvey three minutes into the second half.

Shelvey got his marching orders for stomping on Alli and Spurs duly took advantage as the England midfielder, who pulled all the strings for the visitors, broke the deadlock on the hour when he steered in an inch-perfect cross by Christian Eriksen.

It's 8/1 that Kane scores a header, 15/2 that Gayle and Alli both score, 14s both Ritchie to score from outside the box and Spurs to win 3/1. I've been pulled up for my temper before but today we had to keep our cool.

Not what you want when you've just been promoted to the Premier League.

1231: No Rose for Spurs, obviously, but a strong-looking line-up, which includes former Newcastle man Sissoko.

The influential Eriksen and livewire Alli carved open Newcastle's defence with a lightning move 10 minutes later, presenting Davies with a simple finish from seven metres.

Harry Kane, last season's Golden Boot victor, could have added more gloss but struck the post late on and his wait for a Premier League goal in August continues.

Christian Atsu grew into the game for the hosts and he caused a few issues down the left, although Spurs youngster Kyle Walker-Peters provided some important pace to prevent the Ghanaian from causing too many problems.

"That's football", the Ghanaian said.
