Nationals' treasure Harper hurt in win

Rizzo said Sunday that Harper had an MRI afterward that showed no structural damage.

When Harper left the box, first baseman Michael Morse raced in from the corner of the infield while pitcher Jeff Samardzija sprinted over from the Giants' dugout.

Harper, the 2015 National League MVP, is putting together another award-worthy campaign this season. A bruise! Maybe Harper will be back out there in another week or two! . The 28-year-old Virginia native had a tiebreaking single in the seventh inning on Wednesday, leading San Francisco to its fourth win in five outings with a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

The Nationals are running away with the division despite those injuries and more to starters Stephen Strasburg and Joe Ross, relievers Shawn Kelley and Koda Glover and shortstop Trea Turner, but a long-term injury to Harper would be far more trouble to Washington's post-season hopes.

Edwin Jackson of the Washington Nationals pitches in the first inning against the San Francisco Giants at Nationals Park on August 12, 2017 in Washington, DC. Harper pulled a hard grounder that looked like an RBI double before it found Jones' outstretched glove.

There has been no update on Harper's injury.

As per usual with the Washington Nationals, no injury news is usually given until after the game and its unlikely we will know the full diagnosis until some point during the doubleheader tomorrow.

With the rest of his players showing the strain in some lacklustre preseason outings - Conte admits that Matic's experience will be missed amid the pressure of defending the title.

Despite the horrific accident, Harper did manage to walk around the club house following the game.

If the Giants take a lead late into a game against the Nationals, a big if at this point in the season, manager Bruce Bochy hypothesized how the Washington fan base would receive an appearance from Strickland.

Harper, 24, left Saturday's game with a.326/.419/.614 batting line, 29 home runs and a 1.034 OPS through 472 PA in 2017.

Virginia was in the news Saturday for the racial unrest that took place.

"We just ask for prayers that it's not serious", Baker told reporters after the game, according to MLB.com.

There's a good chance Baker passes Bochy in this series.
