Fernando Llorente reveals why he snubbed Chelsea for Tottenham

Swansea City vs Newcastle United

The 24-year-old, who said he wants to win the Ballon d'Or, has not won a trophy in three full seasons at Spurs.

"At the very last minute, Pochettino called me and convinced me [to join Spurs]", the former Spanish global told Daily Mail.

Mauricio Pochettino insists Harry Kane does not have to leave Tottenham to be considered world class after the striker's impressive Champions League double helped make Wembley feel like home.

"I think like always, we explained our philosophy and project for the future, what we expect from him and need from him", he said. 'It is clear that Pochettino played a very important role in the decision.

The Spaniard worked with Blues' boss Antonio Conte during his time at Serie A champions Juventus and a reunion seemed a foregone conclusion, until Pochettino intervened. I think because only he is so fit he can do this.

"I made my first-team debut [for Athletic Bilbao] against him at San Mames".

"I'm happy because everything came out ideal".

Llorente also has first-hand knowledge of how Pochettino works, having played against the Argentinian coach several times when he was at Athletic Bilbao and the latter at Espanyol. They know better than me.

Winks, 21, had begun making major inroads to the first-team last season before his campaign was brought to a premature end when he was stretchered off during a 2-0 win over Burnley, with it later emerging he had suffered ankle ligament damage. "I think he's one of the strongest mentally of the players because he's Harry Kane and he wants to increase everything and improve every day".

Llorente had the choice of both London clubs this summer when it became apparent that Swansea were willing to sell. At half-time we fixed some problems and modified the position of some players.

Llorente made his first appearance for Tottenham on Wednesday night after coming on as a 87th-minute substitute in the 3-1 win over Dortmund.
