Rep. Luke Messer on DACA, President Trump's Border Wall

UC System urging 'dreamers' to renew permits and seek legal counsel

UC offers guidance to DACA recipients

President Donald Trump's announcement to end his predecessor's unconstitutional DACA program caused a major stir across the country.

That appeared to confirm the broad parameters of an agreement that Democratic leaders announced had been reached Wednesday over dinner at the White House. During this time, Congress has the opportunity to actually make DACA legal through legislation, a pesky detail with which Obama didn't want to trouble himself.

Trump had said he would cancel the scheme, while giving Congress six months to enact a replacement plan for DACA recipients.

Roche says the Dream Act now before Congress is available for review on "Countable" the app created to connect users directly with Congress to make their voices heard. Chuck Schumer of NY and Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California, the top Democrats on Capitol Hill.

Indeed, soon after Trump published those tweets, Pelosi and Schumer issued another joint statement, "President Trump's tweets are not inconsistent with the agreement reached last night".

White House legislative director Marc Short said Tuesday that an amnesty for almost a million illegal immigrants would not have to be tied to funding for a border wall.

In a press conference following the hearing, Batalla Vidal said he was confident Garaufis - who was appointed by President Bill Clinton - had understood the seriousness of the position of Dreamers nervously watching the clock tick on the program.

Failure of repeal will invite thousands more illegal aliens to violate our borders, knowing that they, too, will obtain amnesty and unfairly snubs immigrants who wait years and spend thousands to attain legal citizenship.

Australia kicks off weeks-long same-sex marriage ballot
Hundreds of "no" campaigners marched on Saturday, arguing that changes would infringe religious freedom and children's rights. Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull is one of those supporting a yes vote in an upcoming postal vote.

"If you listen to the president's comments this morning.it is clear that what Leader Pelosi and I put out last night was exactly accurate", he said on the Senate floor Thursday morning.

"The WALL, which is already under construction in the form of new renovation of old and existing fences and walls, will continue to be built", Trump said, referring to the proposed barrier along the US-Mexico border.

DACA gives eligible individuals a two-year period of deferred deportation and allows them to have a work permit.

In a pair of follow-up tweets, the Republican president added, "Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military?"

The whole thing carries risks for Democrat leaders as well.

DACA recipients whose status expires on or before March 5, 2018 were strongly urged by the chancellor to complete and submit a DACA renewal application as soon as possible to ensure that it is received by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) no later than October 5, 2017.

The letter also encourages every member of the UC community who now has DACA to discuss their circumstances with immigration counsel and notes that the UC Immigrant Legal Services Center is available to assist undocumented students. Republicans who pass a typical supply-side bill risk getting smacked by the president (as they were when he declared their health-care plan "mean").
