I'm A Veteran, And I Stand Up For The Right To Take A Knee

I can understand why national anthems are played at worldwide games. There are many other ways to protest.

Colin Kaepernick, a former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, started the form of protest a year ago to draw attention to police killings of unarmed black people and the oppression of minorities.

President Donald Trump is putting pro football players on notice for Week 4 of the NFL season: He won't stand for it if they kneel in protest during the national anthem.

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these National Football League owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, out, he's fired".

Protests are expected to be at a minimum on Sunday however, with teams now calling for unity, and NFC North rivals Green Bay Packers chose to link arms with each other in a show of unity rather than protest, with fans in the stands putting their rivalry aside to do the same. No player kneeled. Every Jaguars player took a knee before the playing of the national anthem but stood during the song. Dallas remains one of six teams not to kneel, sit or raise a fist during the national anthem. "I think they made it clear they support our players, but also support our country, the national anthem, the flag-all of the things some have suggested we don't".

Phillies manager Pete Mackanin will not return to dugout next season
General manager Matt Klentak shakes hands with Pete Mackanin as they talk about Mackanin's new two-year contract in March of 2016. The 66-year-old Mackanin is 172-237 in 2 1/2 seasons as the Phillies' manager.

On Saturday, he reiterated his stance on the protests.

Kaepernick started the protests in the 2016 to raise awareness to inequality and police brutality. While three Dolphins players - Julius Thomas, Michael Thomas, and Kenny Stills - knelt through the anthem, the entirety of the Saints sideline opted to kneel before the anthem before standing in unison as the song played, as quarterback Drew Brees had announced before the game.

He added: "Respect our Flag and our Country!"

Jones and his team did what needed to be done, separating the protests over racial injustices from the deafening outrage over alleged disrespect to the nation, its anthem and its glorious flag. However, Mark Dodson, an engineer, said the protests were "absolutely a global initiative" and "a sign of solidarity between different races, different backgrounds, different everything basically, which is great to see".

The poll also found that almost one-in-four plan to boycott the NFL.
