With the race set to take place on October 1, Raikkonen will be hoping to relive some of his past Malaysian glories as he aims to inch his way up the standings, now sitting in fifth place behind Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, and his Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel.
"I think it would have been more hard if I had lost the vehicle somewhere in the race, then it's obviously different", he said.
HAVING taken a 25-point dive to Lewis Hamilton in the championship last time out, Sebastian Vettel is hoping to claw some of that deficit back this weekend in Malaysia.
All nine drivers failed to finish the race at Sepang on Saturday after a miscalculation on how much fuel was needed to complete two races, which were being run back-to-back due to a timetable reshuffle. "It's over the whole year".
Raikkonen also agreed that there was no point in dwelling on what happened and believes Ferrari could still take plenty of positives from Singapore.
"Those laps, particularly the first Q3 lap, was very well put together, very nice lap, I don't really know where it came from to be honest", Hamilton, whose first flying lap in the final part of qualifying remained his fastest, said after the session. It's not the first time I'm in the situation like this and probably will not be the last time - I'm not hoping for it to happen again!
Ahead of the race, Press Association Sport looks at the major talking points as the season rolls on.

Track crew lifts the auto of Haas driver Romain Grosjean of France after it crashed out on Turn 14 during the second practice for the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix in Sepang, Malaysia, Friday, Sept. 29, 2017. "I think we can not finish fifth but we try to finish seventh", Steiner said.
"It has been an awesome atmosphere but I think even this year will be very unbelievable".
"Red Bull looked very fast in the mixed conditions this morning, in the damp and wet on the intermediate tyres", added Vettel.
"Thank God he didn't get hurt or anything", he said Friday. Last year, a record crowd of 160,000 people turned up for the 2016 edition of the bike race.
"Fridays are when you play around and try some things", Vettel said. "We discussed it (and) Lewis was of the opinion that it wasn't the right moment". Vettel's nearest non-Ferrari rival was Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull - 0.838s off the pace while holding a 0.010s margin over teammate Max Verstappen in fourth.
The session was not restarted, with Formula One race director Charlie Whiting driving out in the safety vehicle to inspect the damaged drain.
Meanwhile, Mercedes endured what their head of motorsport Toto Wolff labelled "one of the worst Fridays I can remember" as Hamilton and team-mate Valtteri Bottas struggled.
