Jerry Jones gives Cowboys players ultimatum: Stand for anthem or sit for game

Here's the Ultimatum Jerry Jones Just Gave Cowboys Players Over Anthem

The NFL does not force players to stand for the anthem, per the game manual, though a rule change is reportedly under discussion.

Since Sunday, Jones has been outspoken regarding his stance that players must "not disrespect the flag" and that they must stand for the anthem or they will be benched.

On Sunday, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones indicated that he would bench players who didn't stand for the national anthem before games.

The national anthem protests appear to be coming to a head, with the NFL telling teams they have a proposal to move past the protests and begin focusing on highlighting players' work on social issues.

Individual Cowboys players have yet to kneel during the anthem, although two have held up their arm and fist at the end of the song. Trump explained later that evening in a tweet that he had instructed Pence to leave the game between the Indianapolis Colts and 49ers if "any players kneeled, disrespecting our country".

Open Ocean Presents Considerable Opportunity For Offshore Wind Energy Generation

Early Tuesday, President Donald Trump applauded Jones' actions and slammed suspended ESPN host Jemele Hill for personally attacking the Cowboys' owner. "So I think the likelihood on the basis of that charge alone, that this gets much steam, is probably unlikely".

"This is a workplace issue", Jones said.

"The employer evidenced by repeated public statements is attempting to threaten, coerce and intimidate all Dallas Cowboys players on the roster in order to prevent them from exercising concerted activity protected under the act by saying he will fire any players involved in such concerted activity", the complaint to the NLRB states.

ESPN's Josina Anderson tweeted out quotes from one anonymous player who seems apoplectic. Later, Trump said he spoke to Jones and that Jones told him the Cowboys would stand for the anthem going forward. In the past, those protections have only protected people from being punished for belonging to certain political parties but a creative lawyer might try to argue it covers protesting football players, too, he said. If they are taking a knee in protest of something the owner has done to them, and it being connected to the conditions of employment, then they might have a case.
