The project, first announced at the 2015 D23 Expo, was to be directed by TANGLED's Nathan Greno.

Disney has announced it is cancelling work on upcoming animation enormous.

Aside from Gigantic, Disney is now in development on three animated feature films: Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 scheduled for a 2018 release, Frozen 2 for 2019, and an untitled feature for 2021.

An original tale inspired by Jack and the Beanstalk, the film was originally set to release in November 2018, but a delay until 2020 signalled the difficulty Disney was having getting the project off the ground. We've come to that point, and although it's a hard decision, we are ending active development for now.

Disney Animation is no longer interested in climbing the beanstalk, no matter what treasure may be at the top. The film was originally set to be released in 2020 and would have featured Jack making friends with a female giant child.

Instead of "Gigantic", the studio is focusing on another project which is now being tabled for Thanksgiving 2020.

Very big would have been directed by Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nathan Greno (Tangled) and was set to feature music from Frozen songwriters Robert Lopez and Kirsten Anderson-Lopez.

For now, Disney fans can still look forward to Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 in 2018 and Frozen 2 in 2019. Details surrounding the new project are sparse for the time being; however, according to Catmull, it has been in development for some time and we can expect news "soon". Dominating the hand-drawn animation genre for decades after that, the studio quickly adapted to computer animation following the groundbreaking debut of Pixar's Toy Story in 1994, a film that Disney distributed at the time and company it became permanent partners with after it purchased the animation studio in 2006.
