Former Baylor football player says coach helped him cheat drug test
12 October 2017, 12:50 | Darnell Patrick
Gordon, a former All-Pro receiver for the Cleveland Browns, made the admission in a mini documentary on www.uninterupted.com, as first reported by TMZ. Gordon admitted to using several drugs including Xanax, cocaine, and codeine in addition to marijuana and admitted his first trip to rehab in 2014 was just a "publicity stunt". He has now missed 43 of his last 48 games and has remained under league suspension dating back to 2015 due to repeated violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy. "That was my first real experience with getting over on the system and that authority not really being taken serious because it was kind of being guided by somebody that's employed by the same university". I had the desire to get help, invest myself 100 percent into whatever was going to help save my life.
"I failed the drug test because I was getting high", Gordon added with a laugh. Gordon said in the documentary, "You're willing to throw away everything you ever worked hard for, everything you ever had out of life". This summer, Gordon said, he found his rock bottom and checked himself into rehab again. "I've been enabled by coaches, teachers, professors, everybody pretty much gave me a second chance just because of my ability". However, Gordon also revealed that while at Baylor, the school would help him cheat drug tests.
About a year later he was suspended indefinitely by then head coach Art Briles after he failed a drug test and tested positive for marijuana.
That was 2014, one year after Gordon led the National Football League in receiving yards and was named a Pro Bowler for the first time.
Gordon explained that by saying at the time his mindset was, "I'm out of detox drinks".

One regent, however, told the "Violated" authors that the lack of random tests instead fostered a permissive attitude and "the underlying message to them is, 'Hey, the rules don't apply to you'". He was suspended for the entire 2015 season for similar violations.
"The sixth game, end of the season, stayed out late but the thing is we had to be up in the morning for like a 7:30 team meeting", Gordon said.
"I think it might be therapeutic for me to talk about it", Gordon said.
"So at that point, I was like, 'If you all want me to be this guy so bad, that's just what I'm going to be'".
