Nintendo Hints at Game Boy Classic With Trademark Filing
12 October 2017, 12:37 | Ross Houston
16-bit games a-go-go
Some of the trademarks could be to protect the "Nintendo Classic Mini Game Boy" brand or they could simply be to protect the Game Boy brand. You can see the patent below, via a Japanese trademark Twitter bot.
The Japanese video game company filed a trademark in its home country on September 15, which included an image of the original 1989 Game Boy. Could Nintendo be plotting more, though?
In fact a trademark filing discovered a few months ago seemed to indicate that the next console to be released in "Classic Edition" form would be the N64.
The trademark covers a range of clothing and accessories, including keychains, jewelry, phone cases and the like, so it could merely be Nintendo reaffirming the Game Boy's visual design for accessories such as these.
Nintendo has already released a Classic Mini NES and a Classic Mini SNES, and it appears the company is not finished yet.
If Nintendo does take the Classic Edition route with the Game Boy, hopefully it doesn't miniaturize it like it did with other consoles.
Nintendo has yet to confirm anything on the topic, but it did previously file a trademark for the Nintendo 64 and the prevailing rumour is that Nintendo are planning a Classic Mini version of that console. In 2005, the Japanese firm came up with a smaller version of the Game Boy Advance, dubbed as the Game Boy Micro. You'll learn the three central ideas behind the game's development, how Miyamoto's inability to work multiplayer into Super Mario games led to him pushing the team at HAL to put them into Kirby, or even that the demo footage of each of Super Star's games was played by Masahiro Sakurai himself.
Would you like Nintendo to do the Game Boy or the N64 next?
