Amazon Alexa Gains Voice Identification To Recognize Who's Talking

The voice recognition feature of Amazon Alexa support shopping, messaging, Amazon Music, Flash Briefings, and Alexa-to-Alexa calling. If you have an Alexa enabled device and want to try it out for yourself, navigate the settings on the mobile app and choose the "Your Voice" option.

Following the footsteps of rival offering Google Home, Amazon's Alexa smart speaker can now differentiate voices and offer back a personalised response.

The ultimate feature would of course be if Amazon's camera equipped devices could recognise when you are in the room and offer you notifications and information.

Fourth-quarter sales of smart speakers could reach almost 12 million units worldwide, bringing the full-year sales total to 24 million units, Strategy Analytics said in a news release. But at least those with Echos around their houses can finally have personalized answers instead of having to manually switch profiles.

Amazon has just given Alexa one of Google Home's most useful features, the ability to understand several different people purely by their voice.

In addition, users who have set a voice confirmation code for shopping, now no longer have to say the code as Alexa already recognizes the voice linked to that account.

According to Amazon, the voice recognition feature will be available across the entire lineup of Echo devices, and the third-party Alexa devices as well.

You set it up through the Alexa app on your iPhone or Android device. You'll have to repeat ten sentences over to train Alexa that it's your voice.

It should be noted that some people are very concerned about privacy with this sort of voice assistant because what you say is recorded and sent out to servers to be analyzed.
