Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger today admitted that the club may sell Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window.

But while Arsenal have yet to make a concrete offer amid reported interest from clubs like Manchester United, Ozil hasn't ruled out extending his contract with the Gunners, the source said.

"It is my understanding [that he wants to stay]", he added.

"I always said that the fact we didn't sign an agreement doesn't mean that the player will leave".

"I hope the situation can be turned around. It is not happening at the moment" - and Merson's return to football with fourth-tier Welsh club Caerau of Maesteg - "We talk about professional football here".

Sanchez meanwhile saw his Chile side crash out of World Cup qualifying with defeat to Brazil with the 28-year-old coming in for some physical treatment.

"Sanchez is a lion who wants to play football and I do not expect him to sulk". The England defender spent last term on loan at Middlersbrough and has only made one appearance this season, against Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup, but Wenger is looking forward to his progress.

Asked if he was anxious about Sanchez's mental state, Wenger said: "I will have to speak to him". Arsenal are now six points off the Premier League leaders after signing just two players this summer - striker Alexandre Lacazette and left-back Sead Kolasinac.

"He doesn't have to leave Arsenal to get to the World Cup". "I believe that Jack is in the best form that I have seen him for a long time". I don't see Jack being fully fit and not going to the World Cup.

Wenger did brush off suggestions that Sanchez's mental fatigue would be a drawn out issue, and insists the attacker will be fully focused on Arsenal's success. Personally, I would prefer to be at home on Christmas Eve and celebrate but that could still happen if we play early on the day.
