Here's Why You Should Get a Flu Shot
"It is recommended that you get the flu shot in the fall". North Carolina had 219 flu-related deaths last season, which went from October 2016 and ended in May, according to state statistics. The vaccine protects against several flu strains. Health officials say San Diego has already reported 203 laboratory-confirmed flu cases this season, whereas previous year at this time, there were only 60 confirmed flu cases. There will be more clinics available at other pharmacies, personal health providers, physicians and the Wyoming Health Fairs office located at 2835 Grand Avenue.
The seasonal flu shot costs $27 for individuals age 3 and older and $20 for children ages 6 to 35 months.
The actions targeted at health professionals come alongside a significant expansion of the national flu vaccination programme for key groups, aiming to offer the vaccine to over 21 million people.
Some people avoid the flu shot because they believe they might catch the virus from the vaccine, but that's just a myth. Dr. Pritish Tosh, MD, of the Mayo Clinic, told the Daily Mail that the influenza vaccine doesn't contain any live virus.
The letter says: "As winter approaches it is worth reminding ourselves that flu can have serious and even fatal consequences".
Now is the right time to be getting the flu shot, said Catherine Passaretti, the medical director for infection prevention with Carolinas HealthCare System. That was one of the later peaks on record and flu season most commonly peaks between December and February, according to the CDC.
The province is offering the flu shot to all Islanders for free this years. "You can prevent missing work or school, visits to the doctor or hospitalizations, and protecting others from coming down with the flu".
Influenza symptoms include high fever, headache, general aches and pains, fatigue, a runny and stuffy nose, sneezing and sore throat.
Influenza spreads when a person comes into contact with droplets from an infected person who coughs or sneezes.
The hope is that it will create a safety net around those children in the hospital who have already dealt with health issues and carry on to protect them after they get out of the hospital.
