Michigan mom jailed for not vaccinating son loses primary custody
A MI mother who was jailed after refusing to vaccinate her 9-year-old son said she would "do it all over again", even though it led to her spending five days behind bars and losing primary custody of her child.
Bredow, 40, was in contempt of court after she ignored an order from an Oakland County judge who told her she had one week to get her son vaccinated.
Her crime? Not obeying a court order to vaccinate her child.
The judge also said Bredow has a history of making child-rearing decisions without consent from her ex-husband and awarded temporary primary custody to Horne, while ordering him to have the boy properly vaccinated.
A Friend of the Court referee, after reviewing the custody battle case, recommended that both parents, Bredow and Horne, get joint custody of their son. A small group of supporters gathered outside the courthouse, waving signs reading "freedom is not force" and comparing the fight against vaccines to the pro-choice movement.

But they were bogged down by two penalty goals which came off in the 24th and 29th minute respectively. After the match, Guinean coach Souleymane Camara accepted that the better team won the match.
Despite losing primary custody of her son, spending five days in jail and the fact that her son was vaccinated anyway, Bredow said standing up for her beliefs "was worth it".
"I was trying to protect my kids", Rebecca Bredow told ABC News Friday in her first interview since her release from jail.
Bredow says she did this and that she and Horne had an agreement when their son was born to delay his vaccine schedule for three months. She said to The Washington Post, "I can't give in against my own religious belief".
"If my child was forced to be vaccinated, I couldn't bring myself to do it", she said. Her attorney plans to appeal. "This was not leverage in any way", she said.
