Director will reshoot film without Spacey

Sony Pictures says it will remove Spacey from its upcoming feature film, All the Money in the World, and replace him with another veteran Oscar victor, Christopher Plummer.

Netflix will also not release the film Gore, starring Spacey, which was in post-production. Scott's drastic choice to cut Spacey from the movie will put it at risk of missing its December 22 release date, thus jeopardizing its Oscar eligibility.

Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams, the two leads in the film, agreed to participate in the reshoots. Imperative Entertainment financed the film, and Friedkin and Thomas produced along with Scott Free's Scott and Kevin J. Walsh, Quentin Curtis and Chris Clark.

Christopher Plummer is set to replace Spacey in the role of J Paul Getty, with reshoots of key scenes expected to start immediately to keep the film's December 22 United States release date.

The report came just hours after a former TV news anchor alleged that Spacey sexually assaulted her teenage son past year, at a restaurant in Nantucket, Massachusetts.

The film was recently pulled from the AFI Fest due to the news revolving around Spacey, but the studio was standing by releasing the film on its original date.

Former US TV news anchor Heather Unruh says her son was assaulted by the star after meeting him in a bar previous year.

Spacey's career has nosedived since the first allegation of sexual advances were made by actor Anthony Rapp on 30 October. He took over Spacey's role as J. Paul Getty, the industrialist who was named by the the richest living American in1966 by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Spacey's representatives say he is seeking unspecified treatment.
