EA has purchased Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment

Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella will stay with the studio and noted that the acquisition ensures that EA Games will continue to "bring the resources and support we [ed: the studio] need for long term success, while still keeping our culture and creative freedom".

The agreement will see EA pay $151 million in cash for Respawn, up to $164 million in long-term equity, and a maximum of $140 million in performance milestone payments.

Publisher Electronic Arts has announced that it intends to purchase Respawn, the developer of Titanfall, for over $400 million.

We have worked together a long time from the inception of the studio. "[An acquisition] has come up from time to time".

According to Kotaku's sources, EA outbid the South Korean publisher Nexon, which now publishes the Titanfall mobile game.

Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President at EA, echoed his views as well, saying that the company wants the best games and a good relationship. In a blog post concerning the deal on the Respawn website, Zampella says that the studio is joining EA to better compete in the future with access to more resources, new technologies, and more.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson said that the Titanfall franchise embodies the publisher's goal of delivering "extraordinary and innovative new experiences", and that "with the Respawn team joining EA, we have exciting plans to accomplish even more wonderful things in the future". It doesn't change the future of Titanfall.

We've seen firsthand the world-class caliber of Respawn as a development studio with incredible vision, deep talent and an inspiring creative mindset.

"Our longtime partnership is grounded in a shared desire to push the boundaries and deliver extraordinary and innovative new experiences for players around the world", EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in a statement.

Right now Respawn is hard at work on a few different projects, a new Titanfall game, an unnamed VR combat project due for release in 2019 and a "third-person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe".
