Ezekiel Elliott suspended again; Could miss three divisional matchups

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott will be suspended for six games starting immediately after the Second Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the National Football League on Thursday.

Elliott is second in the NFL with 783 rushing yards and tied for the league lead with seven rushing scores for the Cowboys, who are 5-3 going into this weekend's game with the Atlanta Falcons. Instead, he'll miss Sunday's game. It wasn't immediately clear how soon the court would rule on Elliott's claim that he was treated unfairly by the NFL. Dallas won't see the return of Elliott in the backfield until Christmas Eve when America's Team takes on Russell Wilson's Seattle Seahawks, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Elliott has bitterly contested the ban and had until Thursday successfully fought to delay the activation of the suspension, playing in all eight of the Cowboys' regular season games in 2017. If there are no further interruptions, Elliott will be out until Week 16.

Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension is back on. But the Cowboys as a whole will have to lift the level of their play if they want to catch the soaring Eagles, who now have a three game lead on Dallas in the NFC East.
