Aly Raisman Says USA Gymnastics Doctor Larry Nassar Sexually Abused Her

Aly Raisman says she was sexually abused by US national team doctor

Six-time Olympic medalist and three-time gold-winning gymnast Aly Raisman is the latest to allege sexual abuse by Dr. Larry Nassar, a MI doctor who worked with the United States gymnastics team.

USA Gymnastics told 60 Minutes it now requires "mandatory reporting" for any suspicions of sexual abuse.

"When I see these young girls that come up to me, and they ask for pictures or autographs. every time I look at them, every time I see them smiling, I just think - I just want to create change so that they never, ever have to go through this", she said.

Dr. Nassar is now in jail after pleading guilty to child pornography charges - but not guilty to sexual assault.

Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman has joined more than 100 athletes alleging abuse inside USA Gymnastics.

Last month, Raisman's teammate from the 2012 London Games, McKayla Maroney, alleged sexual abuse by Nassar dating back to 2009 when she was just 13.

"Why are we looking at why didn't the girls speak up?" she said.

Larry Nassar is accused of multiple sexual abuse on gymnasts for almost 20 years.

Per ESPN, Aly Raisman, who's now 23, started seeing Nassar when she was 15. She details the abuse in her book "Fierce", which will be released next week. Raisman tells 60 Minutes that after the Rio Olympics she spoke to FBI investigators about Dr. Nassar. He was sacked by USA Gymnastics in 2015 after working with the organization since 1986 - he had been its national medical coordinator since 1996, the New York Times reported.

The first public accusations against Nassar came a little more than a year ago, and more than 130 women have filed suits accusing Nassar of sexual assault. "He'd given me a sleeping pill for the flight, and the next thing I know, I was all alone with him in his hotel room getting a 'treatment.' I thought I was going to die that night". The scandal, revealed in late 2016, has shaken the discipline and led to the resignation in March of the president of the American Federation, Steve Penny.

In December 2016, the Indianapolis Star newspaper reported that 368 children and teenage members of clubs affiliated with the Gymnastics Federation had been victims of sexual assault over the past 20 years. "We are grateful to the athletes that brought their concerns about Dr. Nassar to USA Gymnastics". USA Gymnastics, in a statement to "60 Minutes", said it is "very sorry that any athlete has been harmed".
