Turkey proposed $15 million to Flynn, son to abduct Fethullah Gulen

Michael Flynn and his son Michael G. Flynn are reportedly being probed by Speical Counsel Robert Mueller over a kidnapping plan to snatch a cleric away from the U.S. and deliver him to the Turkish government

He left the Trump White House after misleading Vice President Pence on his contacts with the Russian ambassador.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating Michael Flynn and his son's alleged plan to forcibly remove a Muslim cleric from the United States and deliver him to Turkey, according to the Wall Street Journal. Gulen has denied Erdogan's claims.

Citing "people with knowledge of the FBI's inquiries", The Journal reported that Flynn and representatives of the Turkish government discussed the proposal - which one of those people told the newspaper allegedly involved flying Gulen on a private jet to a prison on the island of Imrali - during a meeting in mid-December at the 21 Club in NY.

That meeting was a follow-up to a secret September 19 meeting attended by former Central Intelligence Agency director James Woolsey, who said Flynn and others discussed "a covert step in the dead of night to whisk this guy away".

If Mueller and his team suspect Flynn tried to take official actions to benefit a foreign government, then anyone who tried to impede the investigation into Flynn's alleged misconduct might also face accusations of wrongdoing. The meeting caught the attention of Federal Bureau of Investigation, who have questioned at least four people about it.

CNN reported earlier this week that special counsel Robert Mueller's investigators are examining Flynn's alleged participation in discussions about the idea of removing the cleric who has been living in exile in Pennsylvania.

The US has refused to extradite Gulen, whom the Turkish government has accused of backing a failed coup in Turkey in July 2016.

Multiple sources with knowledge of the investigation confirmed the direction of Mueller's probe to The Wall Street Journal Friday.

"The claim made by Mr. Woolsey that General Flynn, or anyone else in attendance, discussed physical removal of Mr. Gulen from the United States during a meeting with Turkish officials in NY is false", Flynn spokesman Price Floyd said in a statement at the time. But by mid-December Trump had named Flynn national security adviser and he was playing a central role in the transition.

Michael Flynn waits for an elevator in the lobby at Trump Tower on December 12, 2016 in New York City.

Flynn disclosed that meeting, but not the one in December, when he registered as a foreign agent of Turkey in March, just weeks after he was sacked from the White House. The very day Trump was elected, the retired lieutenant general published an op-ed in The Hill calling for the U.S.to not give "safe haven" to Gulen, whom he branded a "radical Islamist" - all without disclosing that he was being paid handsomely for this lobbying.
