Crystal Palace star Ruben Loftus Cheek was loaned by Chelsea

Loftus-Cheek, who is on loan from Chelsea for the season, was handed his England debut by Gareth Southgate in Friday night's 0-0 draw against Germany.

Tammy Abraham proved a handful during his first 60 minutes of global football and man of the match Ruben Loftus-Cheek flourished under the Wembley floodlights, as did fellow debutant Jordan Pickford.

Southgate knows the midfielder having played him during his time as England Under-21 manager, and is convinced the Lewisham-born man is capable of operating on the biggest stage.

The Chelsea player, now on loan at fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace continued: "It could have been better, if we had won it would have been better".

England went toe-to-toe with their old enemies and impressed fans and critics alike with their mature display - something that Southgate also revealed he had been left delighted by in quotes published by Sky Sports.

"Tonight it took him 10 minutes to have a look around and think "Alright okay, I can do this".

"I'm really not surprised because of what I saw before those boys came in and what I've seen in training".

"He's got so many good attributes and that's why we put him into the team".

"If we won it would have been better but I'm really happy", he said.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek will make his global debut in midfield, while Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is also in line to win his first cap for England against the world champions.

"He's certainly made really important saves tonight and of course with his feet, he gives the team a different dimension as well. I just want to play more football", the 21-year-old said.

"They [the u21s] don't have a game and for them to be involved against Brazil would be a brilliant experience for them".

"He's an exciting player - we've got a few exciting players".
