Self-Driving Shuttle Bus In Crash Two Hours Into First Day

US self-driving shuttle crashes on first day of test service
Over the course of a year, the self-driving shuttle aims at providing a quarter-million residents and visitors of Las Vegas with first-hand experience using autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, exposing most riders to the technology for the first time.
City officials in Las Vegas say the shuttle operated exactly as it should have in the situation - its sensors recognized the truck and stopped - and the shuttle was back in operation the next day. The Tesla Model S, which was steering itself, slammed into the side of a truck in Florida in 2016, killing the driver. Ironically, it seems that the human driver of the other vehicle involved was to blame, and not the bus.
Zurschmeide acknowledged that the truck driver was certainly to blame for the accident, but he also stated that improved safety features on self-driving shuttles could allow the vehicles to react smarter in the future. "The shuttle bus very obediently stopped a reasonable distance from the truck and waited for it to move", said Jeff Zurschmeide. Awkwardly for the Navya Arma, the autonomous vehicle, it got hit on the same day that it went into service causing doubts about the nascent technology.
According to Engadget, the service was set for a year-long trial, but ran into a delivery truck in the first hour when the human driver of the truck backed into the bus' bumper.
No. 15 Oklahoma State rallies over No. 21 Iowa State
Iowa State fell to 6-4, and the loss left it behind Oklahoma, TCU, Oklahoma State and West Virginia in the Big 12 at 4-3. With Iowa State driving for a potential game-tying score against Oklahoma State, we had us a near-simultaneous catch.
The bus was developed by French company Navya and uses Global Positioning System, electronic kerb sensors and other technology to find its way along Vegas streets with a strict 15mph limit.
"He probably had an expectation that the shuttle would back off and allow him to do his thing", Cummings said.
Google sibling Waymo announced on Tuesday that it is launching a fully autonomous Uber-like ride-hailing service with no human driver behind the wheel in Phoenix, Arizona in the next few months, making it the first such service accessible to the public without no one to take control in an emergency. This is why my iPhone is two generations behind (well, that and the exorbitant cost of a new smartphone these days) and I'm always the last one to update my operating system or my apps. No worries. There are plenty of auto safety features that are available, affordably, for ALL cars, not just new ones.
LV drivers make Boston drivers look good. The key line in this is "if the delivery truck had the same sensing equipment. the accident would have been avoided". And, we need to destroy all non-autonomous ones.
