PM Narendra Modi meets India under-17 Football World Cup team

India has achieved astounding growth says Trump at APEC

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday told the Indian team that participated in the recently concluded Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup that competing with enthusiasm and spirit "is the first step to success". "From this day forward we will compete on a fair and equal basis", Trump told a gathering of CEOs on the sidelines of the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Vietnam. APEC brings together 21 economies from the Pacific region - the equivalent of about 60 per cent of the world's GDP.

The India U-17 team, which took part in the recently-concluded Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup for the first time in India's sports history, were invited by the Prime Minister after they came back from Saudi Arabia following the AFC Under-19 Championship Qualifiers. It's a sovereign democracy as well as... think of this...

"Since India opened its economy, it has achieved astounding growth and a new world of opportunities for its expanding middle class", Trump said.

In his address, Trump also praised countries like Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia and Japan, which also briefly touched on the bloody history of the Vietnam war, in which Da Nang was a key battlefield.

However, they did not enjoy a successful campaign, losing all three of their Group A matches to the US, Ghana and Colombia.

With a vibrant area, a young demographically, one should be envious of the demographics, said the official.

Attacking China, Trump said the U.S. has reached the limit of tolerance when it comes to stealing of intellectual property and cautioned that if such practices continue unabated, the United States will force the companies indulging in such activities to surrender their technology, forcing them into joint ventures in exchange for market access.

American firms have long complained about China failing to honour intellectual property rights.

The bilateral trade between the United States and China was worth Dollars 648 billion past year, but trade was heavily skewed in China's favour with the USA amassing a almost USD 310 billion deficit.

Trump noted that countries outside of APEC were making great strides in this new chapter for the Indo-Pacific.

"The story of this region in recent decades is the story of what is possible when people take ownership of their future".
