Former Irish global Liam Miller is battling cancer

A number of players have tweeted their support for former football star Liam Miller after it emerged the Irishman is undergoing cancer treatment in the United States.

The Ireland midfielder David Meyler said: "Thoughts go out to him and his family, from the whole team".

"He's a very young man, 36 years of age".

Miller progressed through the youth ranks at Celtic before being handed his league debut in May 2000 - a month before O'Neill took over as manager.

Speaking at his press conference this morning ahead of the second leg of Ireland's World Cup play-off against Denmark, O'Neill offered his support to the former midfielder.

Miller started his professional career with Celtic before moving to United in the summer of 2004.
