Apple Watch retakes lead of wearables market, Xiaomi second: report
For the end of 2017, Canalys expects a strong Q4 thanks to new models promising boosted performance and battery life, as well as seasonal sales for the Holiday period.
After a short disruption by Xiaomi, Apple Inc. In contrast, market researchers like IDC do not include wireless headphones in the wearables category unless they include other additional features, such as health/fitness tracking, integrated artificial intelligence (AI) that isn't just coming through a paired smartphone, augmented audio, or real-time translation. Apple is estimated to have shipped 3.9 million wearables between July and September.
According to a report from market research outfit Canalys, Apple shipped 3.9 million watches in third quarter, 800,000 of which were cellular enabled. Apple shipped 23% of all smartwatches, fitness bands, and other wearables, Canalys said, just ahead of Chinese low-priced seller Xiaomi, at 21%, and Fitbit (fit), which captured a 20% market share.
During the previous quarter, Xiaomi had overtaken Apple as the world's largest wearable bands provider. Their increase in third quarter shipments was, however, more than offset by slowing demand for fitness trackers.
How can the crisis on Manus Island be resolved?
Human Rights Committee said on Thursday Australia should bring its migration laws into line with worldwide standards. The NZ prime minister made the offer during her first face-to-face meeting with Mr Turnbull in Sydney a week ago.
Grateful for his new Apple Watch 3 functionality that took him out of a potentially risky situation, John Zilles emailed Apple to let them know how he appreciates the gear, and apparently even got a short reaction by fellow fitness nerd Tim Cook himself, in the form of one short but sweet "wow, happy to hear you are safe" reply.
Despite strong shipments, the Apple Watch Series 3 did not reach its full potential in Q3. However, some of the markets got the LTE variant as well. The Chinese government has now disabled the Apple Watch LTE access due to apparent security concerns, but the once the issue is resolved, Canalys expects strong demand from the Chinese buyers as well, according to 9to5mac.
At its earnings call, Apple said the Apple Watch grew 50% year-over-year in sales but continued its silence on revealing exact numbers for its wearables. Year to date, the stock is up over 49%, while in the last one-month, it is up over 10%.
