GameStop temporarily halts the new PowerPass rental subscriptions

For now buying games at Game Stop requires old-fashioned monetary exchange
It's unclear why GameStop has chose to do this but some store employees suggest that limitations related to the company's old computers likely caused this.
After PowerPass officially began earlier this week, GameStop froze the program, telling all stores to take down PowerPass advertisements and store them for the time being.
Stores were instructed to take down signage and advertising for Power Pass, and store them in their backrooms. The program has been in the midst of a soft roll-out up until now, but some issues have forced to company to halt the program temporarily due to limitations.
The "few program limitations" that the GameStop spokesperson left undefined could be any number of things: PowerPass's price, its duration, the games customers can keep after the program expires, or anything else. After that six months, subscribers would also be able to keep one of those used games.
According to leaked documentation regarding PowerPass, the service was supposed to officially launch on November 19. "We feel this is the right thing to do for now to ensure we are able to provide our guests an exceptional service", a GameStop spokesperson told Kotaku. Whatever the problem, it was enough to suspend the program indefinitely.
It's understandable for a new program to experience hiccups as it approaches its launch - that's what soft launches are for, after all. Additionally, they can pick out any used game to have for free-not a bad tradeoff.
A fully functioning and consumer-friendly PowerPass program might give customers a reason to choose GameStop over their respective gaming platform's online marketplace, but for now, it seems the physical video game library dream will have to wait.
