The former "Daily Show" host spoke with the "Today" show's Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie about his reaction to the C.K. exposé.
Jon Stewartadmitted that he "could have done more" in regards to multiple women alleging comedian Louis CK being accused of sexual harassed them during an interview on the "Today" show Tuesday.
On the subject of laughing it off, the Chicago Tribune yesterday published a video clip of Stewart being asked about the stories surrounding C.K. and sexual misconduct that had been swirling around for years.
"You give your friends the benefit of the doubt", Stewart said, alluding to friends with compulsions they're working through. "And you always find yourself back to a moment of, did I miss something?" Could I have done more?
"I think it's gotten better over the years", Stewart said, "but certainly when we started 30 years ago, it was really hard, and so to do it was an act of bravery in and of itself". "Comedy on its best day is not a great environment for women". They've been friends and colleagues, and as recently as a year ago, Stewart described C.K.as a "wonderful person".
"At the time, I said to myself that what I did was okay because I never showed a woman my d- without asking first, which is also true", he said.
U.S. considers special investigation of Clinton Foundation
At a House Judiciary hearing Tuesday, Sessions stressed the "factual basis" that must be met to warrant a special counsel, as Rep. Trump is frustrated with the continuing investigations into Russia's election meddling and possible ties to his campaign.
Stewart then addressed his appearance on David Axelrod's podcast a year ago, in which he brushed aside an audience member's question about C.K.'s then-rumored misconduct. Honestly, I'm not that connected to that world. "You know who you're talking to, right?" he said to him, incredulously.
Distributors in Scandinavia (Sweden's Nonstop Entertainment), France (ARP Selection) Israel (Shoval Film) and the Middle East (the Dubai-based Front Row Filmed Entertainment) have canceled plans to release Louis C.K.'s I Love You, Daddy in their territories, The Hollywood Reporter, and Variety and ScreenDaily report.
A Thursday report in the New York Times detailed explicit allegations of sexual misconduct made against C.K.by five women. "'Hey, he's a good guy, what are you talking about?'"
"I profoundly regret and am deeply sorry for not listening to and not understanding what happened to Dana and Julia", Becky said.
Stewart co-hosts the annual charity benefit "Night of Too Many Stars" on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
