Earl Kimrey Onslow County Sheriff's Office
Earlier Saturday, officials said that the live-in boyfriend of Mariah Woods' mother was charged in connection with the case.
Mariah is presumed dead based on evidence gathered throughout the week-long investigation into her disappearance, the Onslow County Sheriff's Office announced about 2:20 a.m. Saturday.
The girl's mother made tearful pleas for her daughter in the days after she disappeared sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning. Her biological father Alex Woods told WCTI 12 Tuesday that he found out his daughter was missing when the Amber Alert was issued and he hasn't seen her for about a year.
Miller said that the outpouring of support from the community has been "overwhelming" and asked that residents continue to support each other "as we all grieve the life of this little girl and still focus on finding her".
Authorities said they have not yet located Mariah's body, and the missing persons search that included Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and K-9 units will now shift to a recovery effort.
Kimrey is being held on more than $1 million bond. Her body has not been found.
Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller talked during a news conference about Mariah Woods, who vanished November 27 from her home on High Hill Road.
