Former US president Barack Obama speaks at a conference during his first visit to France on Saturday

According to Obama, who did not frame the matter in terms of elected officials but generally around men in power, he believes it's time for more women to be in charge.

Though Obama didn't mention President Donald Trump by name, the comment was a subtle jab at Trump's decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Obama also said his daughters tried to teach him the unwritten rules of social media, which includes not following the rules of English grammar, to which Obama staunchly opposed the idea.

"How can I make the people around me better?" Trump also has reversed Obama-era domestic climate initiatives, saying he wants to bring back the coal industry. I said, 'No, that's English.

"Your mother and father knew better. Think before you speak, think before you tweet".

Trump announced in June that he would cease all participation in the Paris accord, which was agreed by 195 countries and global organizations in December 2015 and seeks to reduce global carbon dioxide emissions.

Trump has threatened several times to withdraw from the Paris accord saying it is crippling U.S. business.

Just days before, the President European addressed 55 world leaders from Arab and other Muslim-majority nations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He has called for the agreement to be renegotiated.

Earlier this year, Trump declared that the USA would no longer be a part of the landmark 2015 accord with 196 countries, claiming the non-binding agreement imposed unfair standards on American businesses and workers.

Obama said he has become "obsessed" with the way news is handled and consumed, particularly by the young.

Obama was in China and India before he arrived in France.
