After crashing into a tree, the roof of the bus caved in trapping Rodriguez.

A Georgia state trooper says video shows a school bus driver struggling with the gear shift right before the bus crashed into a tree, killing a 5-year-old girl and injuring other children.

According to Liberty County EMA Assistant Director Larry Logan, the accident happened on Highway 196 at Ray Road and is still under investigation.

The bus driver is still trapped inside the bus, they said. Reportedly the bus driver can be seen on video trying to shift gears.

A crash involving a school bus leaves a child dead. The Georgia State Patrol was investigating and said "charges are pending" in the crash, which involved no other vehicles. He said one child was killed and the driver suffered serious injuries.

Hodges said the roads had been foggy in the area early Tuesday, but authorities reiterated it was too early to know if the weather played a role in the crash. The school bus hit a tree in a ditch.
