House of Cards is back, baby! But without you know who…

06 December 2017, 12:55 | Darnell Patrick

Netflix Production of the series will resume in January

Netflix are going ahead with the final season of House of Cards

Monday's update - wildly speculated - follows the streaming giant's November 3 decision to sever ties with Spacey following mounting allegations of sexual harassment against the actor.

"House of Cards" writers have been racing against the clock to find a new direction for the final season in light of Spacey's absence.

Robin Wright, who has starred alongside Spacey since the beginning of the series, playing wife Claire to his Frank Underwood, seemed the frontrunner to be shifted to lead, particularly after having ended the last season as the reigning president. In the second half of his post, Spacey wrote, "I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man".

Production on the eight-episode sixth season had been hold due to allegations of sexual misconduct made against Spacey.

Netflix show House of Cards will begin production of its final season next year without its star Kevin Spacey.

On Nov. 26, Media Rights Capital announced that it had extended its production hiatus for another two weeks until December 8. Rapp said recently that he's experienced some backlash for going public with his accusations against Spacey, including from some House of Cards fans who had criticized Rapp for putting House of Cards' employees out of work indefinitely.

The announcement on Monday resolved the uncertainty that had surrounded "House of Cards" since the end of October, when Netflix and Media Rights Capital suspended production on the final season "to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew".

Sarandos also announced on Monday that Netflix will expand the number of animated feature films it creates, potentially releasing four or five per year.
