Conyers supporters rally against racism & 'phony white liberals'

The albatross that Democrats deserve

- Prominent clergy, Detroit elected leaders and community activists said Monday that they will go to the White House and U.S. House of Representatives - if necessary - to demand due process for Rep. John Conyers who faces allegations of sexual harassment from several women who once worked for him.

"My legacy can't be compromised or diminished in any way by what we're going through now", said the congressman, who called into the radio show from the hospital where he was taken last week after complaining of lightheadedness.

Conyers' attorney Arnold Reed told the Detroit Free Press Grubbs' allegations are "another instance of tomfoolery from the mouth of Harvey Weinstein's attorney".

Conyers also endorsed his son, John Conyers III, to replace him in office.

"John Conyers has spent over 50 years protecting the rights of everyone in this country, " the Wayne County Executive said. Conyers has denied any wrongdoing.

Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo (D-Detroit), Pastor Charles G. Adams, Pastor Christian Adams, the Rev. Wendell Anthony, the Rev. Charles Williams, the National Action Network, a delegation of 13th Congressional District Leaders and others will be at the event.

More than 200 people showed up for a rally Monday morning in northwest Detroit to support embattled Congressman John Conyers, insisting he deserves due process regarding allegations of sexual harassment. He added that he hopes his retirement will be viewed in the "larger perspective" of his more than 50 years as a lawmaker.

Conyers called the events leading to his early retirement "a game of politics", but said he and his family are taking what has happened in stride and they are dealing with it and will keep moving forward. I'm a co-sponsor on all of them. Al Franken (D-MN). Last week, Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX) was also publicly named as the first sitting member of Congress known to have used a little-known Congressional account to settle an $84,000 sexual harassment claim brought by his former communications director in 2015.

According to a phone interview with The New York Times, the state senator was adamant that the elder Conyers was not resigning, but retiring instead. Another woman accused Conyers of sexual misconduct just days later.
