During Trump inaugural, Flynn greenlighted nuclear project with Russian Federation

Gen. Michael Flynn, former national security adviser to US President Donald Trump leaves Federal Court in Washington DC

As Donald Trump delivered his presidential inaugural address last January, his national security adviser Michael Flynn told a former business associate in text messages that a private plan to build nuclear reactors in the Mideast was "good to go" and that U.S. sanctions hobbling the plan would soon be "ripped up", a whistleblower told congressional investigators.

Flynn though told Copson that sanctions would be dropped, and he reportedly began circulating the plan to top White House officials within days of the inauguration.

Representative Elijah Cummings, the senior Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, recounted the whistleblower's allegations as part of a push to have Flynn and others testify to his committee. The account provides the strongest claim yet that the administration was focused on unraveling the sanctions that President Barack Obama had just put in place and that Flynn had a personal motivation for doing so.

ACU Strategic Partners paid for Flynn to travel to Israel and Egypt in 2015 to promote the nuclear project, paying him a fee of $25,000, according to a letter Copson sent the committee. But Cummings' letter to Gowdy described Flynn's interest in the deal for nuclear reactors in far more detail than was previously known. The memo was intended for Trump to sign, though there's no indication the President saw it, the Journal reported.

"I do not bring this whistle-blower to your attention lightly", Cummings said.

Cummings did not name the whistleblower in the letter, but offered to have Gowdy speak with the person directly.

Flynn pleaded guilty to a charge in the criminal investigation into Russian collusion last week.

The individual met with Alex Copson on Inauguration Day.

Copson did not respond to phone and email messages from ABC NEWS left at his home and with his attorney.

The whistle-blower told Cummings that he saw a text from Flynn that was sent on January 20 "approximately ten minutes" into Trump's speech when Flynn was sitting in the audience. "I am going to celebrate today".

According to Cummings's letter to Gowdy, Copson then told the whistle-blower, "Mike has been putting everything in place for us".

The whistleblower alleged that the businessman boasted about the contents of the text from Flynn, calling it "the best day of my life", according to a detailed account of the alleged incident laid out in a letter from Rep. The administration has not lifted sanctions on Russian Federation.

Flynn pleaded guilty last week to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the nature of his conversations with former Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak. A document filed in Flynn's case mentioned his failure to comply with foreign lobbying disclosure laws related to his work for Turkey, but his charging document didn't mention that work.

Cummings said he was first contacted by the whistleblower last June, but suggested that his account had remained under wraps while Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating Russian meddling, was investigating Flynn. The whistleblower also said that Copson intimated that US financial sanctions hobbling the nuclear project were going to be "ripped up".

With the clearance of Mueller's office, Cummings writes that he's now making the whistleblower's story public. Before Gowdy was House Oversight chair, Republican Jason Chaffetz of Utah led the committee.
