Republican wins hotly contested Virginia race after name picked out of ceramic bowl
"Personally, myself, I may have to pick up a committee or so, just with the way things are now", Kilgore said.
Republican incumbent David Yancey was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates Thursday after his name was drawn from a bowl in an odd tie breaking measure mandated by an arcane state law. Under Virginia law, the way to resolve a tied election is "by lot", and the State Board of Elections is set to do so on Thursday.
To settle the matter, the Board of Elections planned to break the tie by selecting the victor from a clear glass bowl before Christmas in Richmond.
Still, Simonds said she was not conceding the race but instead will take time to reflect on a run that has brought unprecedented national attention to the state race.
Yancey is a three-term delegate trying to avoid the fate of more than a dozen of his House colleagues swept away on an Election Day tidal wave that obliterated the two-thirds Republican majority.
Yancey, who did not attend the random drawing ceremony, said in a statement that he looked forward to getting back to work. However, today's vote was even more significant because it will also determine the speaker of the house and committee assignments. The election has been widely seen as a potential harbinger of the 2018 midterm congressional elections. Democrat Ralph Northam also won the governor's race.
North Dakota State earns football, financial respect
The 2018 opener is against FBS North Carolina State, which is coming off a nine-win season plus a Sun Bowl victory. But cornerback Marquise Bridges picked off Schorr at the 3-yard line and NDSU still had the lead.
"I want to thank the voters who came out on November 7", Simonds said in a statement after the December 19 recount.
The next day, however, a three-judge panel with the Newport News Circuit Court, which was tasked with certifying the results, decided that one of the ballots that was ruled invalid should not have been, leaving the race tied.
Simonds could choose to ask for another recount of the original ballots, though observers from both parties acknowledge it would likely be hard to convene another recount panel in time for the Virginia General Assembly to convene on January 10 in Richmond. Republican Delegate David Yancey won the drawing. Democrat Joshua Cole lost to Republican Bob Thomas by 73 votes in a recount.
Another House of Delegates seat, District 28, is still in dispute: in the Fredericksburg area, a group of Democratic voters has asked a federal judge for a new election after a mix-up over district boundaries caused some voters to be assigned to the wrong districts.
The ballot wasn't counted during the recount and was identified after a Republican election official raised concerns the following day.
The balance of power in the House could shift again because a lawsuit is pending over the results of another House race in Northern Virginia. A hearing regarding the request for a new election is scheduled for Friday in Alexandria.

Palestinians 'Will Not Be Blackmailed' by Trump
On Sunday, the PA said it was recalling its envoy to the United States for consultations, in protest of USA actions. But I think fellow palestinian propagandist Hanan Ashrawi takes the cake with her response.
