Netflix Joins Internet Association's Efforts to Preserve Net Neutrality

Disclosure filings further show that the association was also focused on "issues related to net neutrality, broadband deployment and the Telecommunications Act of 1996" for those three quarters.

"The rules were meant to create a level playing field on the internet", the report added.

"When it comes to an open internet, Twitter is part of the problem".

"The final version of Chairman Pai's rule, as expected, dismantles popular net neutrality protections for consumers", Michael Beckerman, president and CEO of the Internet Association, said in a statement.

"I knew I was passionate about it, but I was shocked at the support I received from Republicans, from Democrats and Libertarians", he said.

Drawing gives Republicans edge in Virginia House of Delegates
Under Virginia law , the way to resolve a tied election is "by lot", and the State Board of Elections is set to do so on Thursday. Yancey, who did not attend the random drawing ceremony, said in a statement that he looked forward to getting back to work .

Once that and other administrative steps are complete, then Pai's opponents can head to the courts, where they are expected to argue that he acted arbitrarily and capriciously - and defied the will of the public - in rolling back net neutrality rules. The California bill also prohibits government agencies from contracting with internet service providers who do not uphold net neutrality commitments.

This is the latest salvo in the contentious debate over net neutrality. But first, the FCC rules must be officially published in the Federal Register before any appeals can take place.

"(A) llowing state or local regulation of broadband Internet access service could impair the provision of such service by requiring each ISP to comply with a patchwork of separate and potentially conflicting requirements across all of the different jurisdictions in which it operates", the ruling states.

Those provisions of the bill include exemptions for "reasonable network management" based on technical abilities and not business practices.

A leading lobbying group for Amazon, Facebook, Google, Netflix, Twitter and other tech giants said Friday that it would be joining the coming legal crusade to restore the US government's net neutrality rules. Approved last month under FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, the new rules make it legal for Internet providers such as AT&T and Verizon to speed up or slow down websites at will, as well as to block them outright.
