CAF Awards: One of many dreams came true - Mohamed Salah

The striker, who now plays for Liverpool, was awarded for his 2017 performances with Liverpool as well as the Egyptian national team, which has qualified for the 2018 World Cup.

He's had a stunning first half of the season at Liverpool with 17 goals in 21 league games and 23 goals in 29 games in all competitions, justifying Liverpool's decision to break the club's transfer record and pay $46.8 million to buy him from Roma in the summer.

The Egyptian had a sublime year as he led the national side to the African Cup of Nations but failed to win the competition in the final match against Cameroon.

In the penultimate round of World Cup qualifying, Salah scored the brace that edged Congo Brazzaville in Alexandria, including the stoppage-time victor from a penalty that sealed a trip to Russian Federation.

The 25-year-old got 625 points from a voting panel made up of nation team coaches and captains.

"Winning this award is a dream come true, 2017 was an unbelievable year for me", Salah said after receiving the trophy.

While the attacker was ruled out of the Merseyside derby in the FA Cup third round as he collected his award in Ghana's capital Accra, Salah was still all smiles with his prize on a flight back to England.

Salah had bagged a number of awards this season such as the BCC African Footballer of the year and Arab player of the year.

Salah became the second after the Egyptian Mahmoud El-Khatib, was awarded the title of player of the year by the African football Confederation.

The Liverpool forward enjoyed a tremendous 2017 with both club and country and now says, he wants to take over as Egypt's best ever.

The annual event also aims to encourage and enhance the performances of sports persons to maintain the high standard and quality of football administration and management in Africa.
