John Dickerson Replacing Charlie Rose on 'CBS This Morning'

John Dickerson Replacing Charlie Rose on 'CBS This Morning'

CBS said on Tuesday that it had chosen Mr. Dickerson, 49, to replace Charlie Rose as the third co-host of "CBS This Morning", a spot left empty since Mr.

PBS and Bloomberg also ended relationships with Rose amid the allegations.

By naming Dickerson, a veteran Beltway journalist who often provides historical analysis in his coverage, CBS News is sending a signal that its morning program will retain its positioning as a hard-news alternative to the other broadcast networks' offerings in that time slot. He will join Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell on the A.M. franchise.

"CBS This Morning" is filling the anchor chair vacated by Charlie Rose with a familiar face to CBS viewers.

"This is a new beginning with an old friend", O'Donnell said.

Dickerson begins anchoring tomorrow, January 10, 2018, and will be based in NY. "Every time I've been on the show, I haven't wanted the conversation with Norah and Gayle to end when my segment does". "I've worked alongside John for nearly 20 years, and this is a great way to continue our mission of putting the news back in the morning".

Dickerson joined CBS in 2009 as an analyst and contributor and was tapped to serve as the network's political director in 2011.

The journalist John Dickerson is a Washington creature to his core: a presidential historian, repository of political trivia, and scion of a glamorous Kalorama family whose party guests regularly included Kennedys, Johnsons and Reagans. The show is now hosted by Norah O'Donnell and Gayle King. Dickerson slowly worked up the ranks until he replaced legendary reporter Bob Schieffer as the moderator the CBS' Sunday current events program in 2015. CBS has not yet chosen his successor, effectively setting off a horse race at the network for one of television's most influential political roles. CBS THIS MORNING is in its closest competitive position with "Today" in at least three decades and in almost two decades.
