Man Burns Down Own House In Bid To Kill Giant Spider

The unidentified man set his apartment on fire when a spider he torched with a lighter crawled on a nearby mattress.

It became confusing when things didn't go to plan with the man on Sunday, in from California, as his house was burnt down.

Although no one was injured in the blaze, residents have been forced out of their homes.

"It was a huge wolf spider", building resident Lyndsey Wisegarver told Redding Searchlight. The spider then caught on fire and moved on to a mattress, setting it ablaze.

After tenants failed to put out the blaze using a garden hose, Redding firefighters responded and managed to extinguish the fire before it spread to other units.

They say they were trying to burn the spider with a propane torch when they accidentally ignited the corner of a box spring. Its venom is considered risky to humans, though generally non-lethal. The bites of a North American wolf spider can be painful but harmless.
