Shortly after, FOX Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal, who previously said a deal was "close", appeared to walk back his claim. Passan did note that "generally, this sort of thing winds up with a deal being consummated". He was 12-12 with a 4.26 ERA and 196 strikeouts in 203.0 inning pitched in 2017. He has a 3.50 ERA in 127 career starts. He is only two seasons removed from a 19-8, 2.60 campaign in 2015, and he's still just 27, so adding him would go a long way toward strengthening either club's rotation. It's less clear how badly the Pirates need outfield prospects given the presence of Austin Meadows, Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco.

Houston Astros fans got a chance to take a picture with the trophy.
