As Google reports, Khorana's father helped his children learn to read and write. The DNA research which awarded him the Nobel Prize, he began at the University of Columbia.
"Together", Google explains, "they discovered that the order of nucleotides in our DNA determines which amino acids are built". Proteins are responsible for basic form and functions. "His accomplishments didn't stop there".
The research which make him prominent personality in science was construction of the world first artificial gene. He announced in 1976 that he was able to make an artificial gene function within a bacterial cell.
