Sony is finally shipping a fingerprint sensor on a phone in the US
Sony will hold a press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018, where it will unveil its next-generation of products. The devices unveiled include the Sony Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra, and the Xperia L2. Usually, there's more of a gap separating the old versus the new, so you could say we're a little bit confused by the hasty turnaround time with this successor. It has only one front-facing camera but all the other features are identical to the XA2 Ultra. "We're targeting 2018 as a breakthrough year, and look forward to showcasing further innovations across the entire Xperia portfolio over the coming months".
The first new phone to be announced was the Sony Xperia XA2, which boasts a powerful 23-megapixel camera that promises "clear low-light photography". And for those who love the buttery smoothness of slow motion videos, the Xperia XA2 is still fairly attractive with its 120 FPS slow motion capture. On the camera fornt, the L2 possesses 8-mp front camera lens and 13-mp rear camera lens. Both screens are with Full HD resolution, which should be satisfying for most needs. And it's built to last with strong and durable CorningGorilla Glass. The main camera has been moved from the top left corner to the central axis of the back, in line with the fingerprint sensor - yes, Xperias now come with a rear-mounted always-on fingerprint sensor.
The 3580mAh battery of the Ultra is larger than the 3300mAh cell of the normal Xperia XA2, although we're hoping for over a full day of use in either case. Sony fit a 3,300 mAh battery that is 40 percent larger than before. No word on fast charging here, though. The XA2 Ultra will come in four different colors such as gold, blue, black, and silver.
The Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra has 8-megapixel 120-degree super wide-angle dual front cameras, both of which have front-firing flash. Also, you know, a functional fingerprint sensor. Still, the design definitely has some premium qualities to it - like its anodized aluminum sides and diamond cut finish on its top and bottom edges.
Facebook to shut down its virtual assistant 'M'
The Mark Zuckerberg-led firm had built M for its Messenger chat platform in an attempt to rival Apple's Siri and Google Assistant. Facebook is shutting down its Messenger virtual assistant, M, which helps users make dinner reservations or get gift suggestions.
Sony has long struggled to find a foothold in the mobile market, particularly in North America. Quick charging is also supported for hours of power in just minutes of charging (requires Quick Charger UCH12W).
The rivalry is intense in the mid-range selfie smartphone race, but the Japanese tech giant aims to break into the competition with its Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra and Xperia L2 smartphones.
"As stated by Sony, the Xperia L2's expansive 5.5" HD screen is great for enjoying video, browsing and social networks on the go. While the XA1 and XA1 Ultra came with small sub 3,000mAh batteries, the XA2 and XA2 Ultra are equipped with much bigger power packs - 3,300mAh and 3,580mAh respectively.
