Made Ice Cream Bars Recalled Over Listeria Fears

Listeria concerns cause recall of ice cream bars sold at Ohio Kroger Giant Eagle

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The Rhode Island Department of Health is advising consumers that Fieldbrook Foods Corporation is recalling orange cream bars and chocolate-coated vanilla ice cream bars, announced through a press release.

The products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The ice cream bars were sold under a variety of brand names and at a variety of merchants, including ALDI, BJ's, Dollar Tree and Price Rite.

Symptoms of listeriosis include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.

Individuals with weakened immune systems could suffer serious or sometimes fatal infections.

The supermarket company pulled the products following a recall by its supplier, Fieldbrook Foods Corp., due to the potential for Listeria contamination.

Bi-Lo said its recalled Southern Home Orange Cream Bar with UPC 6078801142 and Southern Home Arctic Ice Cream Bar with UPC 60788001147 were sold in SC stores. The bars were produced in 2017 with a "best by" date of January 31 to December 31, 2018. Products under the Hood and Kemps labels show "best by" dates of July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.

The company has suspended production and distribution of all products made on the production line in question while the Food and Drug Administration investigation. The listeria concerns came up after routine testing revealed the presence of the bacteria in a few ice cream samples.

People who have purchased the bars are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
