Tyler Barriss, 25, made his first appearance in Sedgwick County District Court following extradition from California.
Barriss was arrested in a Los Angeles transitional recovery center, law enforcement sources told NBC.
The Los Angeles man at the center of what is believed to be the first fatal "swatting" incident in the US has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a hoax phone call that led to a deadly shooting in Kansas, records show.
According to online jail records, Tyler Barriss is charged with involuntary manslaughter; giving false alarm, notifying emergency services and interfering with a law enforcement officer, falsely reporting a felony. Barriss will appear in court on Friday to be read his charges.
Police responded to the address, where an officer fatally shot 28-year-old Andrew Finch after Finch opened his door. He was booked in Sedgwick County Jail on Thursday afternoon, according to The Wichita Eagle, and his bond is $500,000. Barriss, who has previously faced charges of making fake bomb threats, was arrested in California on December 29 and extradited to Kansas yesterday. "He doesn't play video games", Finch said.
An investigation is still ongoing as to other people alleged to be involved in a game online, Bennett said, adding that involves a forensic analysis of machines, phones and computers.
Barriss has also been linked to swatting incidents in IL and New Hampshire, according to court records.
Reports say Barriss was called by someone after a feud between two Call of Duty players broke out over a virtual "friendly kill" during a game earlier that day. Calgary police are charging Barriss with mischief and fraud. Barriss was allegedly targeting the home of a young woman he met online, authorities in Calgary said.
On the evening of December 22, officers were deployed to an apartment building in the community of Bankview after someone called 911 claiming that they had shot their father and taken members of their family hostage.
