The Palestinian Authority has retained some contact with the Trump administration, despite vowing to cut off all ties to U.S. leadership in protest of its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, the London-based Arabic newspaper Al-Hayat reported Saturday.

Friday's clashes came as thousands gathered in al-Maghazi for the funeral for a 16-year-old boy, Amir Abu Musaid, who was killed by Israeli forces during a protest east of al-Boreij refugee camp.

According to IDF estimates, some 850 Palestinians participated in clashes in 17 locations in the West Bank and more than 1,000 in four locations along the Gaza Strip's border with Israel.

The official stressed that the only way to achieve peace was through creating an independent Palestinian state on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on global terms of reference, and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which Arab leaders adopted in their summit in Beirut.
