Connecticut 'Dreamers' In Limbo, Despite Judge's Order To Keep DACA

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program sort of got new life early this week.

The order allows the DACA program - implemented by President Barack Obama - to resume while the legal challenge to ending it moves through the legal process. Most of her DACA clients, about 90, come from Kansas.

Wednesday, the president criticized the judge's decision on Twitter. "We said it from the very beginning: Donald Trump and this administration did not follow the rules in trying to abandon the DACA program".

The deal hit a snag after reports Thursday that told lawmakers at a meeting on immigration at the that the US didn't need more immigrants from "sh-hole countries" like Haiti, El Salvador and several African countries.

Donna Salcido, immigration services coordinator for InterServ, said there are about 15 St. Joseph residents she sees who are affected by the DACA ruling.

That number will soar to over 1,000 a day after March 5, when the program was set to begin being phased out, with all permits expiring by the end of September 30, 2019.

"If you previously received DACA and your DACA expired on or after September 5, 2016, you may still file your DACA request as a renewal request", the agency said on its website.

The cost to file a renewal application will be the same as before, $495.

On Tuesday night, U.S. District Judge William Alsup in San Francisco blocked the proposed cancellation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which protects undocumented people who came to the United States as children, known as "Dreamers", from deportation.

Salinas she can't take a permanent teaching position because her work permit would expire in the middle of next year.

The president has demanded extra border security, including funding for a wall, as well as an end to family-based chain migration and the visa lottery program.
