AppleMusic's paying subscriber base has surpassed 36m worldwide - a figure which remains about half the size of Spotify's equivalent premium audience. The milestone was shared with the Wall Street Journal as part of a wider piece on Apple Music's progress - including the claim that it's growing faster than Spotify in the US.
Apple Music is closing the gap on Spotify when it comes to paid subscribers in the United States. A month ago Spotify has claimed that it has 70 million paid subscribers, making it almost twice as large as Apple Music. At the last count, the service boasted a staggering 70 million paid subscribers. This is remarkable given that Spotify's available in 61 territories vs. 115 for Apple Music.
Apple Music has three to four times more users in the trial period than Spotify, boosting its overall listenership numbers in the United States past Spotify. At those rates, Apple Music should overtake Spotify during the summer.

As a streaming service developed by Apple, the public could be prejudicial by expecting something incredible, but the advantage provided by Apple music is that the user can select music to stream on demand. Apple Music lacks the free tier of service that Spotify offers, which interjects adverts periodically into playback.
The fact that Apple's ability to bundle Apple Music trials with its popular devices is paying off is good news for our industry.
