Amazon's discounted Prime Exclusive phones ditch the lock screen ads

The Nokia 6 will no longer have ads when purchased from Amazon's line of Prime Exclusive Phones. Juan Garzón CNET
That will continue to be the case, and the phones will still ship with many Amazon apps preinstalled. Ads that hijack your lock screen can sometimes preclude that.
Furthermore, you will be able to customise the lock screen wallpaper on your Prime Exclusive phones - something that was not allowed before in order to make room for ads.
Amazon has announced that, starting 7 February 2018, it will remove lock screen ads from its discounted Prime Exclusive Phone program. You see, Amazon is dropping the lock screen ads! The program previously offered Prime members access to significantly discounted phones with the catch being that buyers would have to put up with ads on the lockscreen and some Amazon bloatware pre-installed on the phone. The new rule, labeled "Lockscreen Monetization" reads, "Unless the exclusive goal of the app is that of a lockscreen, apps may not introduce ads or features that monetize the locked display of a device". As a user, it would be very hard to identify which app was displaying lock-screen apps, since any game or app would technically be able to take over the lock screen. But the apps are also updated through the Play Store, so the rules should apply to any updates.
New leaked details emerge about Red Dead Redemption 2
Battle Royale is now in vogue, and has seen mainstream appeal thanks to games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite . For example, there's a new Slums Market where players will be able to purchase new equipment for a reduced price.
Amazon Prime phones could be exempt from this policy since customers agree to the ads for a lower-priced device and they had the option of paying to turn them off. They removed the lockscreen ads, making their devices far closer to the standard non-ad-filled Android experience available on all non-Amazon phones. Amazon is also going to keep collecting usage data, including "your devices interaction with software, applications, and services on the device", according to the updated FAQ on the matter.
The question now is: "What does the future of Amazon's cheap phone program look like?" We may be provided this information directly from the device or its manufacturer. Will the ads pop up in other places?
