Frazier, who is from New Jersey, was received warmly when he returned to the New York City area.
Free-agent third baseman Todd Frazier has signed a two-year, $17 million deal with the Mets, a source told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. In 66 games with the Yankees, Frazier hit.222 with 11 home runs, posting an OPS of.788. He's pretty much a swing for the fences guy at this point in his career. As a Red, Frazier posted a.257/.321/.463 slash line with 108 home runs and 324 RBIs.
Frazier began his major league career in Cincinnati, where he became a two-time National League All-Star. In 81 games, the White Sox slugger only managed to hit 16 home runs while driving in just 44 runs, and hitting a paltry.207. His home run numbers could reasonably be around 25-30.
Frazier, who was acquired by the New York Yankees in mid-July, will be making the move from the Bronx to Queens as the Mets look for some stability on the hot corner.
Mets manager Mickey Callaway has some different options to explore on the left side of the infield, but the most likely scenario will see Asdrubal Cabrera moving from third to second base, with 22-year-old Amed Rosario getting the full-time job at short. Cabrera's contract is set to expire after the 2018 season and he would be a nice player to add mid-season.
The COO of the Mets Jeff Wilpon defended the offseason spending by the team last month after being criticized by fans, but saying the team was likely to make more moves before the season started. Along with Frazier, the Yankees also received two one-time Yankees in Tommy Kahnle and David Robertson.
